Who are you voting for (U.S. Presidential Elections)
I am choosing Fred Thompson in the Republican primaries. He is the one candidate that best suits what I am looking for in a leader for this nation. His conservative mindset, and great Christian/Southern character makes him an ideal leader in my mind. He has good Anti-Abortion stances as well as a good strategy for the war in the middle east. He is a far more conservative choice than Rudy, and while not as good as Tancredo, actually stands a chance of winning the presidential office.
I don't know who I'm voting for. It definately isn't going to be Fred Thompson. All he wants to do is revoke some womens rights and permanently ban gay people from having a legal union (so that they can have basic rights a couple would have). He has no right single us out.
I'm very much going Democrat....who knows, maybe I'll vote for Rudy.
Well i'm going to vote democrat no matter what. My political beleifs would never lead me to vote republican, and no third party has enough support or money to make a dent this year.
If i had to pick my candidate, it would hands down be John Edwards. Obama lacks the experience and Clinton isn't as electable as some people would seem to beleive atm. Edwards has the elect ability, the south, and is running the most honest campaign imo.
I'll be voting for John Edwards as well. It is my belief, that all of these candidates are somewhat full of shit, but he seems the most honest out all of them.
I really wish Al Gore would get in the race, he is the best man for the job.
Thompson is more of a patriot. He's the kind of man who wishes to return credibility to Old Glory and gain respect back for our nation. He's a simple humble country boy with an appretiation for the fundamental moral values the country was built on, and he has the strongest Christian character of every candidate in this race.
There are too many issues that I disagree with Thompson on. I just don't know if I could vote for somone that I disagree with on a lot of important issues.
And that's exactly why Thompson might be a good candidate for the Secretary Of State position.
I truly believe that we need a strong democratic leader as our next President because The Republican's heads are so far up their ass, they can't tell the difference between a secular leader and a terrorist.
However, If I were to vote for a republican candidate, it would either been Dennis Kucinich or Ron Paul.
LMAO typical conservative answer...yearning for the days of Regan.
As a liberal...Thompson is the one conservative i do not want to win the nomination...because he has the best chance of winning. Hes appeals to the Regan republicans, hes christian enough for the christian right, and hes got charm to swoon independents.
I don't see any other republican standing a real chance in the general election tbh.
Fusion....Kucinich is a hardcore liberal. Don't insult him by calling him a republican lol.
Ron Paul and Kucinich are pretty similar when talking about foreign affairs and the bush administration...but ron paul is a staunch libertarian and dennis certainly is not.
Kucinich is one of my heroes...one of those true hopeful liberals who will never get elected and way to idealistic...but having him around is a breath of fresh air. Met him, and is one of the nicest men alive. I'm not a libertarian, but i respect what Ron Paul does.
I definitely am geared more towards the Libertarian side and to me, Ron Paul embodies a lot of my own beliefs and his platform is one I can associate with more than any other candidates platform bar a few things here and there.
I don't agree but i can respect that....i can honestly appreciate any politician who has the balls to take such unpopular positions.
Ron will never have a real chance winning a republican nomination though sadly, but im sure he knew that going in. The fact that me and you are talking about him and discussing his ideas is a victory for him.
This country has not been truly perfect since the late great Ronald Reagan was in charge anyway.
Thats why the man will be loved in time if he wins. Sure the libs won't agree with some of his policies, but he is a great uniter, hes a man who can get rid of the national divide and restore honor and credibility to the flag. He is the type of a man that when an immigrant comes to this country, 2 days later they'll be waving old glory around.
Good.
Hardcore liberal-Someone who did so much pot during nam they have a hard time remembering what America is.
Politicians have no right to deny women the right to have abortions and certainly have no right to ban homosexuals from having an legally recognized union. God does not protect human creations such as health benefits, access to each others finances, tax deductions, being the legal next of kin. All of these are human creations and nobody should have the authority to deny those to anybody.
Please point me to the chapter and verse in the Bible where God tells man that only heterosexual couples can have health benefits and tax deductions because they are married. Oh wait...it doesn't.
I'm talking about legal rights. Murder is specifically denounced in the Bible.
The Bible doesn't say anything about denying health benefits and tax deductions to homosexual couples.
People keep using the Bible as an excuse to deny certain people rights, well, I'm simply using the same Bible to show that hey "the Bible doesn't say anything about this so why do we deny them this or that?"
ok, i see your point... and its a decent one. Hell, the bible could be used to justify tons of liberal viewpoints that christian conservatives throw down. I guess i just think its harmful to combat their misuse of the bible with more bible usage.... we need to get away from mixing politics and religion. Make it a human right issues, not a religious question.
Well maybe George W. Bush was the second coming of "Regan" but what I'm hoping for Thompson to be is the second coming of REAGAN, who was in fact the greatest president to ever live, and honest to god was loved by every republican and a large large percentage of Democrats as well.
I have to disagree with you. I personally think Bill Clinton was the greatest president ever to live. Clinton was an amazing president that got away with a blow job in office, how cool is that!
Ok... a few things. I can think of worse things to do in office than having an affair; fucking the US over in foreign opinion, taking two weeks to respond to the worst natural disaster in US history and undertaking the second most poorly managed and stragized war in US history; these are bad things that affect the whole country. I don't think having a little party with an unnattractive intern quite counts up there.
And I really hope you're not being serious about Nixon. As much as I hate Bush, it's pretty hard to top Nixon in the suck department.
As for the actual topic for the thread, if I could vote right now, I'd honestly vote for John Edwards. As a liberal, I really don't believe that either Obama or Clinton would be much of a step for America. Obama's not nearly experienced enough to take the office yet and Hillary Clinton is just another coporate Dem. I think Edwards is gonna surprise everyone and gain a massive amount of popularity around the turn of the year and get a lot support around march. After looking at his policies, he's actually the most progressive out of all of the dem nods aside from Kucinich--whom I'd love to see get nominated... but I'm realistic.
I only appreciate the nixon tapes.....have you heard those things? Funniest shit ever. He's seriously the crankiest, meanest fuck ever. Some guy will be like " we should do this to help the poor!" and nixon will be like "BAH! I hate the poor!".
