SD SmackDown Spoilers thread 2007 - 2010

WWE Friday Night SmackDown!
TAPED: September 25, 2007
AIRS: September 28, 2007
Indianapolis, Indiana @ Conseco Fieldhouse

REPORTED BY MICHAEL WEAVER, JR OF www.WrestlingUpdateOnline.com

Before the taping bega, a special advertisement for the WWE WrestleMania 23 DVD was aired. It was the recap video played at the end of the pay-per-view. Note that the only remnant of the United States Championship between Chris Benoit (then champion) and "MVP" Montel Vontavious Porter was a scene of MVP walking down the isle. That's it.

Ring Announcer Justin Roberts (Who now only ring announces for SmackDown and Tony Chimel announces for ECW on Sci Fi.) welcomes us to the TV taping and announces that after the opening contest, the taping will officially begin.

DARK MATCH: JESSE & FESTUS v/s DEUCE 'N' DOMINO (W/CHERRY)
This was my first chance to see Jesse and Festus in action. The crowd was solely behind Jesse and Festus. The match ended when Jesse pinned Domino after nailing a flying shoulderblock off of the shoulders of Festus.
WINNERS: JESSE & FESTUS

Michael Cole and "JBL" John Bradshaw Layfield make their way to the announcers' table.

A recap video of the wedding between Teddy Long & Kristal Marshall is shown.

Vince McMahon and Vickie Guerrero are shown backstage. Vickie says she talked to Kristal last night and that Teddy has been in a coma since last week. The nurses are watching him 24 hours a day and he hasn't improved at all. She asks McMahon if he knew that heart disease runs in Long's family and he said no. He then said that the show must go on and that due to her being the Assistant General Manager and Long being unable to complete his duties, Vickie would become the acting general manager. She says she will accept the role and is honored. As Vince leaves, Finlay enters the room. Vince says that with their Irish heritage they have something in common. They also have Hornswoggle in common. Vince says he's had some problems with him and he hopes that Finlay could help him out. They walk out the room as Vickie looks on.

The SmackDown! opening airs.

MATCH #1: TORRIE WILSON v/s VICTORIA
This match began the show. Both Divas came to the ring alone and it was Victoria who captures the victory. After the match an unknown woman dressed in red came to the ring and attacked Torrie Wilson.
WINNER: VICTORIA

The United States Champion and 1/2 of the Tag Team Champions, "MVP" Montel Vontavious Porter, came to the ring to host a VIP Lounge along with his "posse." He said it's been one year since he joined WWE. His tag team partner, Matt Hardy came to the ring and said that he had two gifts for him. The first gift was a video package where he (Hardy) had MVP's best moments placed in a music video. At first only sound was playing and Hardy made a face like "Well, come on!" and then it aired. The video had moments where MVP was getting his butt kicked by superstars such as Kane, Evander Holyfield, including the Inferno Match where Kane sat MVP on fire. Also, footage of the Hardy-MVP non-wrestling contests were aired as well. Afterwards, MVP said that wasn't funny and Hardy said to calm down because it was just a joke. Hardy said that he did have a gift for MVP and he gave it to him. MVP unwrapped the present to reveal a bottle of Crystall. One of MVP's friends tried opening the bottle and had a lot of trouble. Finally the bottle was opened and as the Tag Team Champions were celebrating, Hardy said that he has another present for MVP and that one is because he knows MVP likes to pass challenges so tonight he has gotten MVP a match where he will defend the United States Championship against KANE! MVP was not pleased as Hardy celebrated back to the locker room.

A preview for No Mercy aired advertising the WWE Heavyweight Championship in a Last Man Standing Match between John Cena (champion) and Randy Orton and the World Heavyweight Championship in a Punjabi Prison Match between Batista (champion) and The Great Khali. For more on No Mercy visit the official website at http://nomercy.wwe.com.

A video aired promoting ECW's biggest competitor - Big Daddy V and Matt Striker. It's the same video that has aired on ECW on Sci Fi where Striker talks about the first victim being The Boogeyman. It also contains highlights of the Extreme Rules Match between V and Boogey from a few weeks ago. At the end, V looks into the camera and growls.

MATCH #2: CHUCK PALUMBO v/s KENNY DYKSTRA
Palumbo was definitely over in Indianapolis. He came to the ring via his motorcycle. While the former World Tag Team Champion was over, I do not believe his opponent was. Kenny Dykstra tried and tried to win the match but Palumbo was just too much for the former Spirit Squad member. The match ended via pinfall.
WINNER: CHUCK PALUMBO

Jesse and Festus appeared on the Titan Tron and Jesse said next week will be their in-ring debut on SmackDown. He said once Festus gets into the ring and the bell rings, he becomes completely opposite of what he normally is. He said once the bell rings for the final time, Festus goes back to his calm self. Festus is the face of wrestling, according to Jesse.

Michael Cole and JBL did an on-camera segment.

WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Batista appeared on the Titan Tron for an interview. After being confronted by JBL who accused Batista of being scared of the Punjabi Prison match, Batista said that when you put him in a cage, he is unleashed and people get hurt.

Kane was shown walking backstage towards the ring with a smile on his face.

A video promoting The Undertaker's in-ring return to SmackDown! tonight aired.

MATCH #3: WWE UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH - MVP (CHAMPION) v/s KANE
The US and Tag Team Champion came to the ring first. The challenger came out second and after a hard fought battle, Kane defeated MVP via disqualification when he had MVP set up for the chokeslam but the champion kicked him between the legs in front of the referee. MVP quickly left the ring with his belts and posed as if he had won the match. Kane stared at the champion and if looks could kill, we would be mourning MVP right now.
WINNER: KANE VIA DISQUALIFICATION, MVP RETAINS THE TITLE

A recap video of the WWE 2007 Diva Search Limbo Contest was aired.

JBL entered the ring and said we were going to see a real interview with hard questions. He introduced Rey Mysterio and informed him that next week Rey will take on The Great Khali. Rey asked why JBL had all the hate. He asked if it was because Mysterio ended his career. JBL said that's exactly why because he is tired of seeing people half his size with half his talent while he has to sit at ringside and talk about them. Rey reminded JBL that he's been World Heavyweight Champion AND ended his career. Mysterio said he wasn't going to fall for the same trick that happened last week so it's time for JBL to either "put up or SHUT UP!" JBL shoved Mysterio to the mat who then knocked JBL to the ropes. He went for the 619 but JBL moved so Mysterio dropkicked him which sent him back to the ropes. Mysterio tried again and nailed the 619 and then the splash from the top rope. As Mysterio was celebrating his "victory," Finlay ran to the ring and as Mysterio turned around, Finlay nailed him with the Shilaleigh. Finlay stared at Mysterio and then at JBL before leaving the ring. Two referees came to the ring and helped Mysterio but completely ignored JBL who stumbled back to the commentator's table. Funny note: while JBL was "out" one of the cameramen placed his hat on his own head. As soon as JBL was back on his feet, he quickly took the hat off and placed it on the ring apron.

REMINDER: NEXT WEEK REY MYSTERIO WILL WRESTLE THE GREAT KHALI ON SMACKDOWN!

Backstage, the interim general manager Vickie Guerrero was with Cruiserweight Champion, Hornswoggle. She said she liked what he did on RAW but this is SmackDown and she's in charge. She said his capturing the Cruiserweight Championship was a fluke and that him being a champion AND a McMahon makes him a big target in the locker room. Everybody wants to be the one who takes out Mr. McMahon's son. She said Mr. McMahon and Finlay would never forgive her if she allowed something to happen to Hornswoggle so for the safety of Hornswoggle, the Cruiserweight Championship has been vacated. She did not say how a new champion would be crowned but she told him everything would be okay and he shook his head no and had a very sad facial expression as he left the office.

The SLAM of the WEEK was shown and it was last week's Jimmy Wang Yang versus Jamie Noble match where Noble was counted out due to the distraction by Shannon Moore.

MATCH #4: SHANNON MOORE v/s JAMIE NOBLE
Jamie Noble came to the ring and signaled that he was going to win the Cruiserweight Championship. Shannon Moore came to the ring next. Noble appears to be on the way up the ladder of success as he pinned Moore.
WINNER: JAMIE NOBLE

Backstage, The Great Khali and his translator, Ranjin Singh appeared on the Titan Tron. Khali said a bunch of stuff in his native tongue and then Singh translated it. Singh stated that Khali wants Batista to watch next week's match between The Great Khali and Rey Mysterio so that way he can get an idea of what is in store for him at No Mercy. Khali promised victory and a new champion at the next pay-per-view.

MAIN EVENT: THE UNDERTAKER v/s MARK HENRY
"The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry came to the ring for the main event followed by The Undertaker. 'Taker's entrance features two hanging Undertaker symbols that are caught on fire and then similiar exploding fire from the ground. 'Taker had very little trouble with Henry. One memorable moment was when 'Taker had Henry set up for Old School and Henry caught him in a bear hug. The Undertaker won the match after a chokeslam. I believe the next "segment" was taped after the show went off the air. As 'Taker was celebrating in the ring, the chanting began and the Druids came to the ring, picked up Henry and carried him back to the locker room area. 'Taker then signaled that he wants the World Heavyweight Championship around his waist.
WINNER: THE UNDERTAKER

Before the live broadcast of ECW on Sci Fi, four videos were shown. They were a video recap of the WWE in Baghdad 2006 ... a preview of WrestleMania XXIV; which tickets go on sale on November 3 ... a music video promoting Jeff Hardy which featured clips of his WWE career ... and Timberland's "Throw It On Me" music video featuring the WWE Divas.

During the commercial break before The Miz's match, a video was shown on John Cena which featured clips of his WWE career.

During two of the commercial breaks of ECW on Sci Fi, they had two different segments. They were Kiss Cam where Tazz enters the ring and the TV cameras put different couples on the Titan Tron. The couples are supposed to kiss when they appear on the screen. Some couples featured two women, two women that were different races, two men (didn't kiss), and other man-woman combinations. At one point they showed an overweight woman on the screen and Tazz said "Oh no, never mind. Get her off the screen." Which I thought was rude. The other segment was the Sign of the Night where Joey Styles enters the ring and different signs that are in the crowd appear on the Titan Tron. Wrestlers that had signs written about them included: CM Punk, Big Daddy V, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Teddy Long and The Undertaker.

DARK MATCH MAIN EVENT: WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH - BATISTA (CHAMPION) v/s THE GREAT KHALI
At the end of the night a special dark match took place just for the fans at Conseco Fieldhouse. WWE originally announced it as a tag team match between World Heavyweight Champion, Batista & The Undertaker versus The Great Khali & Mark Henry. However before ECW on Sci Fi began, Tony Chimel announced that it had been changed to a World Heavyweight Championship Match between Batista (champion) and The Great Khali. Interesting note: since it took place after the live broadcast of ECW on Sci Fi, they left all of the ECW stage materials up so technically history was made as a World Heavyweight Championship Match took place in ECW. The match was probably five to ten minutes long with Batista nailing the spear and the spinebuster on Khali. Batista pinned Khali to retain the championship. As Batista celebrated in the ring, he saw a boy around the age of 10 at ringside who took his shirt off to reveal that he had his own pair of Batista trunks. Batista told security to bring the boy into the ring and the World Heavyweight Champion celebrated his victory with perhaps his biggest fan. Batista then walked around ringside and made sure to slap the hands of as many fans as he could. When he reached the locker room entrance, he went back and slapped hands with fans that were lined up the isle way and then walked back and clapped for the fans in attendance and then bowed before giving the peace sign and walking backstage.
WINNER: BATISTA, RETAINS THE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Here are this week's spoilers:

Quote
Nutter Center
Wright State University
Dayton, OH

WWE taped Smackdown before ECW tonight.

Through the hard shot, the place is basically full. Camera side is almost entirely tarped off. This arena only has the one level, no upper bowl. Attendance similar to their last TV here though.

Dark Match:

Major Brothers over Paul Burchill & William Regal

Smackdown:

Out come JBL & Michael Cole.

Batista comes out. He blabs and says nothing significant. Khali interrupts from the back. Again, nothing significant. Batista you don't know what it's like to be with a caged animal.

Chuck Palumbo, with Michelle McCool, over Ace Steel.

The match was very short. Immediately after the pin, Chris Masters comes in and puts Chuck in the Master Lock. He passes out and Masters breaks it. PPV Filler anyone?

(Ace just made it to TV in OVW and already he's a Smackdown jobber. Hopefully this doesn't mean doom for his WWE career.)

Jamie Noble over Jimmy Wang Yang.

Floor producer came around and handed out revised run sheets at this point.

Matt Hardy & MVP come out. They have some sort of push up contest and MVP wins. I went to the bathroom.

Tag Team Championship: Matt Hardy & MVP over Deuce & Domino, with Cherry.

Kane over Kenny Dykstra, with Victoria.

In the back, MVP tried to turn the tables on Matt by asking Vickie Guerrero to make a match between Matt and Kane's brother, Undertaker. Instead she said Kane & Undertaker would take on Matt Hardy & MVP.

Jesse & Festus over Chad Collyer & Mike Tolar. Apparently their theme song is called Biscuits & Gravy.

Rey Mysterio over Great Khali via DQ. Finlay interfered. Batista ran in for the save. Two PPV match hypes for the price of one!

After that, they changed the set for ECW, even though they just announced tonight's main event as Undertaker v. Mark Henry. I guess it will be a dark match.

There was a dark match between Smackdown & ECW. Funaki beat Mike Kruel.
Not too sure what to make of that report. It seems a bit all over the place

Even though it is a dark match. it is odd that Regal is tagging with Paul Birchall

Could be a typo with someone meaning to say Dave Taylor instead of Regal, or maybe a one night deal coz Taylor couldn't make it.

A couple of other things that I just thought about when I re-read these spoilers.

There is no reference to the cruiserweight title at all. They may still book at title match for No Mercy but they should have at least addressed the match. Noble's beaten a lot of cruiserweights recently, he'd be the obvious choice for crusierweight champion

The other thing that confuses me is the whole Matt Hardy and MVP vs Brothers and Destruction match that Vickie talked about. Should we assume that this match is going to be at No Mercy?

Its gunna be MVP and Matt vs the Brothers of Destruction at No Mercy for the tag team titles. Its a good way to get those four guys on the card but im sensing dusty finish written all over it.

Kane and Taker dont need the tag team titles theres no team on SD that they can lose them too without losing credibility.

MVP and Matt cant lose cleanly as it will just kill all their momentum.

This is where the tag team of MVP and Matt Hardy will split up. MVP's going to bail, Matt is going to take the beating of his life; some random big guy (anyone to be honest) is going to beat up the Undertaker, and that will be that. Match over by DQ or no contest.

Matt Hardy then continues his singles feud with MVP and Undertaker feuds with next generic big monster, and Kane goes back to nowhere.

According to wwe.com, the tag match will take place on smackdown next week

Quote
Oh captain, my captain!
By Louie Dee
Written: October 5, 2007

DAYTON, Ohio – If WWE Tag Team C hampions Matt Hardy & Montel Vontavious Porter had to pick a team theme song, a version of “Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better” might be a good choice.

Their quest to determine who’s better than who continued in Dayton, as MVP challenged Matt to a push-up contest before their scheduled title defense against Deuce & Domino. But being the great guy that he is, “team captain” MVP, always looking out for his partner, offered Matt the chance to forfeit right before the contest.

“Hey, I don’t want to wear you out for our match,” the cocky United States Champion graciously revealed. “You’re sure you want to do this?”

Matt was sure, but had he known how MVP would score the victory, he might have reconsidered. The rules stated that the first man’s chest to hit the ground would be the loser; sure enough, as they headed northward of 30, Porter quickly swiped Hardy’s arm out from under him, causing Matt to fall face-first onto the canvas. MVP was quickly declared the winner and the two bickered, but had little time to resolve the dispute before a classic car carrying the trio from the Other Side of the Tracks rolled down to the ring.

Despite all the bickering, however, once the bell rings Hardy & Porter have shown themselves to be remarkably cohesive at times. Against Deuce & Domino, a little bit of division showed through as both men seemed to try to one-up the other, but in the end, the result was one they were both happy with.

As all four men battled in the ring, the referee turned to get Deuce back to his corner. Domino quickly removed his belt, looking to whip Hardy like he was a canine from Surry County. Instead, it was MVP who once again stole a page from Jesse “The Body” Ventura’s playbook – win if you can, lose if you must, but always cheat – by nailing Domino with a low blow. Neither Hardy nor the referee saw it, so Matt quickly followed up with a Twist of Fate for the pinfall.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t the end of the champions’ night. As they headed to the locker room, their victorious walk was interrupted by Kane. As the Big Red Machine made his entrance to the ring, MVP scurried as far away as possible; Kane looked at both men, but continued on his journey with a wicked smile. Later, while talking to Acting GM Vickie Guerrero, MVP tried to convince her that Matt should battle Undertaker. Instead, Vickie came up with a better match for next week: Undertaker & Kane vs. Hardy & MVP.

The look on Hardy’s face – and MVP’s, for that matter – said all they needed to about the captain’s bargaining prowess. Still, the question remains: Can the Felix and Oscar of WWE dismantle the Brothers of Destruction next week?

Undertaker & Kane share some dark words regarding next week’s blockbuster tag team match in an WWE Mobile on AT&T exclusive video.

This week's smackdown spoilers:

Quote
Credit: Aaron McMann and PWInsider.com

Dark Match:

-Jacob Duncan defeated Funaki

Smackdown:

- Chuck Palumbo rolled up Chris Masters for a pinfall. Palumbo controlled most of the match. Afterwards, Masters attacked him and out Palumbo with the Masterlock.

- Big Daddy V promotional video airs.

- Jesse & Festus defeated Jay Adams & Conrad Carr (Eddie Venom and Conrad Kennedy III from Michigan indy scene)

- There is a backstage vignette with Jamie Noble, Deuce and Domino.

- Drew McIntyre (Drew Galloway from Scotland, with Dave Taylor) defeated Brett Major

- Diva search segment.

- Backstage promo with WWE Tag team champions Matt Hardy and MVP.

- The Undertaker and Kane defeated WWE Tag Team champions Matt Hardy and MVP after Taker drilled MVP with a tombstone. This was a non-title match.

- In a backstage promo with Vickie Guerrero and Jamie Noble, leading to Vickie signing Noble vs. Khali next.

- Great Khali beats Jamie Noble with the head squishie.

- Jimmy Yang Wang defeated Deuce and was then attacked and laid out by Deuce and Domino. Cherry even slapped Yang.

- Rey Mysterio vs. Fit Finlay for the #1 contendership of the WWE World title went to a no contest after a chair was used. The lights in the arena went out and by the time they returned, both men were laid out in the ring. Undertaker was inside, making a motion with his hands for the belt, motioning to Batista, who was at ringside doing commentary.
Not a bad show, smackdown always tends to give the viewers better matches than raw does. I read that raw had half an hour of maches in their two hour show this week. This show is a little more balanced

I see that there is this Drew McIntyre character with Dave Taylor. Birchall has been teaming with Taylor recently, perhaps that are making a British faction.

This sets up the fatal fourway at Cyber Sunday now doesn't it?

The matches are what I love about SD. They don't have the smooth talkers and all, but they always manage to put up 5-6 matches, maybe even 7 sometimes.

Interesting to see where they go.

The rumours suggested that the fatal fourway would be

Batista vs Undertaker vs Khali vs Mark Henry

I mush prefer the idea of Finlay and Mysterio in there in place of Khali and Henry

I had read another article somewhere which had infact confirmed Rey and Finlay in place of Henry and Khali, so I guess they are going to go with that, which makes it an infinitely better match.

Although I am still hoping they pull a swerve and let the fans choose the gimmick and not the referee.

It now looks destined to be pick the referee

I just think that it is wrong to have Foley and Austin in there when they have nothing to do with Smackdown. When those guys make wwe appearances, it is always on Raw.

It should really be JBL who referees this match but it almost definitely won't given that he's up against those big names

Apparently the chair shot was too demeaning to little Rey

Quote
After ECW went off the air last night, the WWE ring crew hit the ring to change things back for Smackdown. JBL, Michael Cole and Batista all came back to ringside at the commentary position. They had Finlay and Rey Mysterio come back out, work a short match and then go to a finish that saw Finlay shove the referee for the DQ.

During the original taping, the match went to a no contest after a chair was used. The lights in the arena then went out and by the time they returned, both men were laid out in the ring and the Undertaker was inside, making a motion with his hands for the belt and staring down Batista; who was at ringside doing commentary.

It will now be interesting to see which finish that they use this Friday night.

As I said the other day, it seems like they are going in the direction of a British faction:

Quote
Dave Taylor, Paul Burchill, and Scottish new comer Drew McIntyre will all be put together as a new faction for the SmackDown brand. Burchill has recently been down in Ohio Valley Wrestling as a major heel. McIntyre is said to be a resemblance to a bulkier Brian Kendrick.
If McIntyre is the guy that I think he is, we have seen him on tv a few times, the one that comes to mind was when he was the Scottish champion, Hamlet Macbeth facing MVP prior to Wrestlemania. He's suppoed to be pretty good as well.

It'll be nice to see a heel faction going around again

SMACKDOWN SPOILERS

[credit Adam Clarke and www.wrestling-online.com/ringside - with 3 copies of Chris Jericho's book to be given away on the show this Friday at 7pm ET]

SmackDown opens with a recap of last week's stuff with the Undertaker. Tonight, JBL interviews Big Dave, and our first match is a WrestleMania Rematch:

KHALI vs Kane: Kane beats Khali by DQ, after Kane was choked with wire for the DQ. Kane shoves Khali down after the match, and out comes Big Daddy V to squash Kane post-match.

MVP vs Mysterio is later tonight.

Matt Striker interview with Big Daddy V, warns that V will be coming to SmackDown to cause havoc. That's followed by Chuck Palumbo (w/ Michelle McCool) vs. Chris Masters. Victoria comes out to attack Michelle McCool... that distracts Palumbo, allowing Masters to get the win via a roll-up.

Backstage segment with Matt Hardy and MVP. MVP says that he feels like Matt is his friend, and he doesn't want the match at Cyber Sunday.

Matt plugs the choices for the match, as we go to Matt Hardy vs Finlay. Matt wins after hitting the Twist of Fate - MVP came out and took the shillelagh off of Finlay.
Major Brothers are up next.

Drew McIntyre beat Brett Major (?) with the Flatliner.

JBL interviews Batista - it's a shill for the book and the Cyber Sunday choices. JBL says Dave has never beaten Undertaker, and calls him a coward. JBL gets speared - they're heavily plugging people to vote for Austin here.

Jimmy Wang Yang & Shannon Moore beat Deuce & Domino with a sunset flip.

Undertaker vs. Jamie Noble, as per Vickie Guerrero's orders after Noble complained about the Khali match. It was a squash match. Taker wins with the chokeslam. The entrances took longer than the match!

It's announced the next UK TV taping tour is going to be in April - tickets go on sale Saturday October 27.

A LOT of people left after the Taker match... it's just gone 10.30pm and Rey vs. MVP starts. It went through one commercial break, and was good until the finish - Finlay came out to attack MVP, causing Mysterio to lose via DQ. Rey then attacked Finlay as SmackDown went off the air. "Very flat finish". No post-show dark matches, which is just as well because the arena was half empty by the time the show ended!
The show in itself doesn't sound too bad, its just a shame how it ended up with no crowds. Need to see how it's going to look on TV.

And the Big Vis-Kane feud is official.

All of the action from last night's TV taping!

Credit: Joey DiMiatro and Pwinsider.com

Dark Match:

-Chuck Palumbo beat. Kenny Dykstra.

Smackdown:

-They opened with an edition of the MVP lounge to push the tag team main event.

-Kane pinned Mark Henry.

-In a really fun match, WWE Tag Team champions MVP & Hardy beat Finlay & Rey Mysterio,

-They do a backstage vignette where Jamie Noble tries to pick up Vicky Guerrero, so she puts him in a match.

-Batista destroys Jamie Noble.

-Jesse and Festus defeated jobbers

-In a Three-Way, ECW's Big Daddy V defeated The Miz and John Morrison. Of all the ECW guys, we get these three? How about Dreamer or Punk?

-JBL interviews the Undertaker and gets chokeslammed for his troubles. Batista comes out and spears UT, who does the sit up deal to close Smackdown.

-The dark match was Batista and Mysterio vs. Khali and Finlay.
Sounds like a good show but it probably should be heading into a ppv.

I thought that the tag match was booked as Hardy and Rey vs Finaly and MVP but that report has it the other way around. Either way, it will be a really good tag match with foru awesome performers involved

Noble just seems to be fed to the lions every week. I wonder of they are going to do something with the cruiserweight title soon rather than squashing him every week

I like the idea of putting the three ECW title competitors in a triple threat even if it is on smackdown

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that at last night's Friday Night Smackdown taping in Kansas City, Matt Hardy suffered a 7 inch gash that required 35 stitches in a tag match where he teamed with MVP against Finlay and Rey Mysterio. According to reports, Mysterio's knee brace caught Hardy in the head and he was described as bleeding everywhere - so much so that they had to change the mat because it was covered with so much blood. His status for Cyber Sunday this weekend against MVP is said to be uncertain where fans can vote the two to compete in a wrestling match, boxing match or MMA match.
Terrible news. This feud with MVP has really gone on for too long just based on the lack of opposition for Montel, so if Matt has to take any time off for this then it'll really hurt the feud. Although, if the MMA match was voted in at Cyber Sunday, it would be absolute pwnage to see MVP connect to where the stitches are and bust him open.

They probably wont do it, but it'd give MVP a tough guy rep that would help him up the card in the coming years.

^^ man, that is terrible news.

With only six matches on the card they simply can't afford to lose that match. If Hardy is not right, they need to announce another match soon

^^ I actually think that this sounds like a really good show. However, the spoilers never do smackdown justice as some weeks I will read the spoilers and think that the show seems really bad and it all turns out to be really good.

There's plenty this week that interests me. I look forward to seeing it tomorrow afternoon

Tag match with Rey/Finlay vs MVP/Hardy would be an interesting one to watch after the news of him being opened up.

Thanks to Ina Golubovskiene for sending this in:

WWE SmackDown Taping

WWE SmackDown opened with Vickie Guerrero announcing Batista vs. The Undertaker in a cage match in the main event. Batista came out and said something but I think they were having audio troubles or something.

Deuce and Domino with out Cherry defeated the Majors Bros.

A backstage segment aired with Teddy Long but I think they were having more sound problems.

Finlay defeated Rey Mysterio when Chavo Guerrero returned. Chavo Guerrero ran in and knocked Rey Mysterio off the top rope. Rey Mysterio looked like he hurt himself.

The Miz defeated Jamie Noble I think it was.

Vickie Guerrero announced Chavo Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio in a Loser Leaves SD match for Survivor Series.

They said doctors were looking at Rey Mysterio.

The Great Khali defeated two jobbers in one match. His translator ranted on for about 5 minutes before and after the match about Khali wanting a title shot. Think he said something about Kane too. Squish match.

Katie, the new SmackDown diva and Victoria beat Torrie Wilson and another blonde girl maybe Michelle McCool.

A backstage segment with MVP and Matt Hardy, both are shown running to the ring
MVP lost to Matt Hardy in a Cyber Sunday make-up match. Matt Hardy was busted open a little bit at the end of the match. Good match but non-title.

The Undertaker and Batista went to a NC in the cage match when some kind of bad finished happened. Short match. Three referees came down and they all were arguing, like a few months back when Taker lost the belt. It looked like they both fell out of the door at the same time, hard to tell from our seat.

That was basically it. A Big Daddy V promo aired and some more backstage stuff went on.

Pops:
Rey Mysterio
The Undertaker
Matt Hardy
Teddy Long when he showed on the screen

Heat:
Big Daddy promos
Chavo Guerrero when he returned
Woo! Chavo is back! Chavo Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio in a Loser Leaves SD match at SS pretty much means that Rey is going to Raw! Ive read rumours about this for a while and with the return of Edge and the ECW talent transfer they can spare Rey Mysterio to Raw.

Other than that, cant really tell much from those spoilers, other than Taker and Batista will probably have a match at Survivor Series. And Matt Hardy seems to be back in action

I found this set of spoilers on PWM, so I don't really know what to believe.

Quote
Dark Match: Majors Brothers. defeated Dave Taylor & Drew McIntyre

SmackDown Tapings:

- The main event is revealed to be Undertaker and Batista vs. The Great Khali and Mark Henry.

- Batista comes out and talks about his life and how he has had up and down battles and that his battle with The Undertaker is not over yet. He says that they each have had one win over each other and that they need to have a rubber match. Lights go out! Taker appears in the ring! Taker grabs the mic and speaks!! He says he has Batista's back in the main event but he wants to gold in a Hell in a Cell match! Khali & Henry eventually come out and blab about the main event.

- Vickie Guerrero is in the back with Jamie Noble and she says she is finalizing the Hell in a Cell match for Batista/Undertaker 5. She puts Noble in a match tonight with Rey Mysterio. It's presumed the Taker/Batista match will go down at Survivor Series.

- Rey Mysterio defeated Jamie Noble with a West Coast pop, which was a counter of Noble's Tiger Bomb.

- Mick Foley defeated Jonathan Coachman in a match that really came out of nowhere. Hornswoggle was the special referee and he helped Foley get the win which got a huge pop from the crowd.

- Chuck Palumbo defeated Kenny Dykstra with the Full Throttle.

- MVP and Matt Hardy are in the back discussing how they must be defending Tag Team champions. Matt says MVP has some singles competition first with a man who has MVP's number - Kane.

- Kane defeated MVP with the chokeslam in a clean win! I believe this was a non-title match. Afterwards, Big Daddy V came in and destroyed Kane.

- Batista and The Undertaker defeated The Great Khali and Mark Henry via DQ when JBL interfered. JBL came in out of nowhere and gave Batista a Clothesline From Hell and then started beating up on The Undertaker. This was a good match, with a solid 10-12 minutes of good action. The crowd was really into it.

I'd rather not comment on the spoilers, though I've seen Georgie's set around more than silver's.

If it is silver's set: Chavo vs. Rey reeks of unoriginality.

If it's Georgie's: BOUT FUCKIN TIME, I WANT MY FUCKING CELL MATCH NOW THANKS.

I watched this today in Aussie land and Georgies set is correct.

It was an average show but, the first one sounds far more exciting, despite it being fake.

It's weird. From time to time, smackdown spoilers will do that. I wonder where they get the info from or whether people make these things up.

I remember one time where there were three different sets of spoilers

Here are this week's spoilers:

Quote
Thanks to Andy for sending these in, stay tuned later for a more detailed report!
I attended SD live from Bakersfield CA, so here's some quick match results. Order may not be entirely right.

-- The Major Brothers won a tag team battle royal to earn a title shot later "tonight." Other teams were Deuce/Domino, Jesse/Festus, Drew McIntyre/Dave Taylor and Jimmy Wang Yang/Shannon Moore. The Majors eliminated Deuce/Domino for the win.

-- Victoria w/Kenny beat Michelle McCool w/Chuck Palumbo. Victoria won with a DDT.

-- Finlay beat Rey Mysterio after knocking Rey off the top rope as Rey was about to hit a West Coast Pop and hitting the Celtic Cross. Match had to have gone around 20 minutes, really good stuff.

-- CM Punk beat Jaime Noble. Afterwards, the Miz attacked Punk and John Morrison attacked Miz, leading to a three way brawl. Punk won the day, but was laid out by Noble.

-- MVP/Matt Hardy beat The Major Brothers to retain.

-- The Undertaker beat The Great Khali in a No Holds Barred match. No weapons were used, Taker won with a Triangle choke.
Not too many matches on the card from this report but I am sure that it will come off better on TV.

The tag battle royal sounds like a good idea. Nice to see that they gave the Major Brothers a tag title shot

I like the sound of the Rey vs Finlay match. it's about time that thise two guys were given the opportunity to have a lengthy match. I was really excited about this feud to start with but up until this match, they had not had a good match as part of this feud.

It's evident that they are pushing Jamie Noble at the moment. even though he may be doing a lot of jobbing, he is getting a lot of tv time and exposure every week. All of the attention that noble has been getting makes me think that the cruiserweight title is still alive

So Morrison and Miz got involved. This continues what Miz started on this week's ECW. I wonder which direction they are going for Survivor Series in regard to the ECW title. I would hope that they get a few more guys involved in a title match

So Hardy and MVP retained the titles. I wonder what the future holds for these guys. i really think that they should drop the tag belts soon. This would have been the perfect opportunity

As for the main event, that was to be expected. It says that they didn't use weapons which is a little disappointing for a no holds barred match

IN any case, a good show it would seem

I like the sound of this show, I seriously do. I can even imagine Undertaker vs Khali being a half-decent match. If 'taker used the triangle choke to win, it would mean Khali being down on the mat for that, and having Khali thrown off his feet makes the match better.

I like the way they are using the ECW/SD talent exchange quite well, and this should benefit Punk/Morrison/Burke/Miz quite a lot.

And they have to give Jamie Noble a title shot for something/anything soon. He's had enough backstage vignettes with Vickie to deserve a shot and a trashing sometime soon.

If one didn't know any better, looking at the spoilers for this past week, you'd think Smackdown had a credible tag team division.

I missed half of the show, but I will watch the replay on Sunday. Good to see MVP and Matt retained. The last few times WWE had double champions (Benoit as World Heavyweight and World Tag and Cena as WWE Heavyweight and World Tag), they dropped the tag title shortly afterwards.

Undertaker over Khali is stupid IMO, unless they want to make Taker look good for a loss to Big Dave at SS. Khali has the potential to be a comedic babyface (possibly a duo with Hornswoggle) so having him fight one of the more over faces in the company before his more-than-likely comic face turn at Survivor Series was dumb.

I also hope Noble picks up a win over someone credible soon, as long as its not Kane.

Only brief results here but it does seem like an interesting show even from this small report:

____________________

- Jeff Hardy d. Finlay by DQ.

- The Miz & John Morrison d. MVP & Matt Hardy to win the WWE Tag Team Titles. Afterwards, MVP attacked Matt Hardy and injured his knee.

- The Undertaker cut a promo

- Rey Mysterio d. Mr. Kennedy

- Beth Phoenix & Victoria d. Mickie James & Torrie Wilson

- In a weigh-in, Horswoggle came in at 138lbs. while the Great Khali broke the scale.

- Batista d. Mark Henry

___________________________

So Miz wins his first ever title in this business. Kinda silly though. They go from two partners who don't get along to two partners who don't get along.

Rest of the show sounds pretty good. Jeff vs Finlay and Rey vs Kennedy will be good matches

I was reading a slightly more expanded set, and it said Hornswoggle started crying when Khali broke the scales. That entire segment might actually be funny.

Miz and Morisson as tag champs? I don't think anyone saw that coming, I like it though as they're both heels it'll work better than MVP/Matt. Plus it moves them away from ECW Title. We can all pretty much assume Punks keeping the belt and moving on to a feud with Noble.I can't believe the E is booking this....it seems good!

Heres a more detailed version

[Source: PWInsider.com]

- The following is a detailed report of the Smackdown tapings which were held last night. Sorry for the delay, as we didn't get the results back until very late. Also, ECW did not air live, it was taped as soon as th event started, which was at 6:30pm ET. Seems they did this to avoid exposing a failry big angle that took place last night (that will air on Smackdown Friday night) because the same participants were also on ECW last night.

The dark match was Kevin Thorn over Nunzio. Then came ECW.

Smackdown:

The show opened with Finlay against Jeff Hardy in a non-title match. A solid match that lasted a little under 10 minutes, I think, before Finlay was DQ’d for grabbing the shillelagh and trying to use it. Jeff ducked it, though, and grabbed it away from him. Finlay ran for cover.

An in-ring promo from the Undertaker was next. He got an amazing reaction. What he said was pretty short and sweet, that the "devil’s playground" of Hell in the Cell should be known as the Deadman’s playground and that Batista would rest in peace. Clips of Taker brutalizing people in Cell matches (HBK, Foley, Rikishi) aired throughout the show.

Next up was a diva’s tag match with Torrie Wilson and Mickie James against Beth Phoenix and Victoria. Beth pinned Torrie after that double wing into a slam move that she used on Maria Monday night.

A short backstage segment with the Hardys aired where Jeff told Matt that he had plans and had to go. Matt watched him leave and repeated the word "plans" like he found it funny.

It was then time for the VIP Lounge with guest Matt Hardy. They discussed their match on ECW, with Matt accusing MVP of taking advantage of Jeff when Kennedy yanked him to the floor, and MVP pointing out that he saved Matt from Kennedy afterwards. Matt pointed out that MVP hadn’t defended the United States title in a while, and more specifically he hadn’t defended it against Matt. So he suggested having a title match right then and there.

MVP said it was bad enough they had to be on opposite sides at Survivor Series, he didn’t want to wrestle Matt for the US Title, too. He said the two of them were friends now and shouldn’t be fighting. Matt finally told MVP off, saying they aren’t friends, they’d never be friends, and that he wanted his title shot.

MVP said it couldn’t happen because he’d arranged a tag title defense, and asked that the ring be cleared out and for their opponents to come down. John Morrison’s music hit and he made his entrance, then The Miz did likewise. Early on in the match, MVP grabbed at his leg like he’d pulled something and tagged in Matt. The story of the match became that Matt severely injured his knee, and Morrison and Miz kept working on it until Matt could barely stand. He was never able to tag MVP and ended up getting pinned to lose the titles.

MVP grabbed the microphone and, while making some boy-band jokes at the new champs, demanded to have his contractually obligated rematch for the tag titles right then. Morrison and Miz returned to the ring and a second match began.

MVP started the second match, but after about a minute he grabbed at his leg again and tagged Matt back in. Matt could hardly stand and was basically defenseless, ultimately giving up in a submission hold.

After the match, MVP helped Matt to his feet only to turn on him by kicking the injured leg. A pretty lengthy attack on Matt’s knee followed, with MVP taking the time to remove Matt’s boot and his leg brace and doing damage to the knee. He then bent Matt’s knee around the ring post a few times. Then he put the big metal stairs in the ring, picked Matt up, and dropped him on his knee on the stairs. MVP left to the biggest heat of the night and referees and officials came out to help Matt hobble to the back.

The next match was Mr. Kennedy against Rey Mysterio. It went about 15 minutes and was a very good match, I thought, though I’ll admit the fans (who were super hot for Rey) might have made it seem better than it was. I’d say Undertaker’s reaction was bigger, but the entire crowd was living and dying with Rey’s every move. The finish came when Kennedy got Rey up for the Green Bay Plunge and Rey countered it into a top rope hurricanrana.

Next up was the boxing style weigh-in between the Great Khali and Hornswoggle, hosted by Michael Cole. Not much of note happened: they both stood on the oversized scale, with Cole reading Hornswoggle’s weight in the 100's and then claiming the scale broke when Khali got on it. Then they stood next to each other to show off the size difference. Hornswoggle wept throughout the segment.

The main event came next, a no DQ match between Batista and Mark Henry. It couldn’t have gone longer than 2 or 3 minutes and was pretty much all Batista. He went outside and got the title belt, smashed it into Henry’s head, and got the pin. Afterwards he destroyed Henry outside the ring, smashing him across the back several times with a chair and then spearing him on the floor.

When Batista got back in the ring, Undertaker’s music played. The video screens showed a close up of Taker’s eyes, which he rolled back into his head. That’s where Smackdown ends.

Afterwards, JBL ran away from ringside and Batista posed and slapped hands to close the show.
So MVP finally "turned" on Matt and in the most brutal way possible. This was the best move as it didnt make much sense that they were trying to portray them as "friends" but were on different sides at Survivor Series. I really liked it how they waited until the last SD before Survivor Series to do that segment. All of the other feuds in that match hasn't progressed at all but this has. Now we have a slightly injured Matt looking for revenge and MVP, who will do anything to avoid him. Great booking, by far the best feud in the E right now

The only thing im critical on is that Morrison and Miz are now tag team champions. With Matt and MVP it worked, but here we have two heels that dont like each other, but no-one wants to see either turn face.

Man i forgot Mark Henry even existed

I would like to see Edge put in a No Holes Barred Match against Batista this week we all seen what The Animal is capable of after decimating Mark Henry in a NO DQ Match last week i got a good feeling the SD Acting GM would ask for a please explain from Edge and more than likely put him in a match with Undertaker as punishment

Interesting twist to proceedings on smackdown this week. It seems like this is out of order.

__________________

Dark Match:
- The Nasty Boys defeated Dave Taylor and Drew McIntyre. It was said the Nasty Boys looked pretty good.

- MLB star Wade Boggs is in attendance.

SmackDown
- WWE U.S. Champion MVP pinned Rey Mysterio. No Matt or Jeff Hardy appearances. A segment was done where JBL presented MVP with a diamond ring.

- World Heavyweight Champion Batista came out for an interview. During the course of the taping, it is revealed that Edge's return was done in cahoots with Vickie Guerrero and the two are together, and they were even shown making out at one point. Edge vs. Batista is announced for next week's show. The Undertaker gets involved and gives Guerrero a Tombstone at the end of the episode, with Vicky going out on a stretcher.

- WWE Tag Champions John Morrison and The Miz defeated The Major Brothers.

- Jamoe Noble defeated Chuck Palumbo

- Finlay and Hornswoggle defeated Mark Henry in a Handicap match. Great Khali came out and got involved after the match.

- Torrie Wilson defeated Victoria.

- Kane defeated Big Daddy V by DQ.

___________________________

The undertaker/vickie guerrero segment should be in the main slot. I thought that Vickie would go heel sooner or later

Seems like Finlay is now a face, should be interesting to see him with Hornswoggle again

Noble's push continues. He actually gets a win over a big guy this week

I read the same set and they confused me quite a lot; but I must say I like what I see. Finlay as face may be interesting but they need to let him be the same old badass, with a slight soft corner for Hornswoggle.

Edge and Vickie - remind me not to see this episode at any cost, this is something I do not want to see, and I am so sure we are going to get an Edge-Chavo match at Royal Rumble because of this one.

Jamie Noble is doing well for himself, and I think we will see a lot more of Miz and Morrison on SD, considering they've found a new challenger for Punk on ECW.

Here are some more detailed results that seem in a more logical order:

___________________________

More detailed report from the taping!

Dark Match

- The Nasty Boys defeated Dave Taylor & Drew McIntye.

Smackdown

- Edge & Vicki Guerrero were shown backstage. Vicki began to yell at Edge, then smiled and hugged him. Edge reveals that they have been working together and Vicki is proud of what Edge did at the Survivor Series. Vicki announces that Edge will face Batista on Smackdown next week for the World Title. Edge and Vicki then kiss.

- JBL introduces MVP and calls him the greatest WWE U.S. Champion ever. MVP comes out and JBL praises him and the job he did on Matt Hardy last week. JBL gives MVP the United Nations ring which is a ring that looks like the U.S. Title. MVP puts it on and praises JBL who leaves. MVP then continues to rip Matt Hardy who isn't at the show. Rey Mysterio eventually comes out and tells MVP that what he did was wrong. He calls MVP a punk and MVP vs. Rey Mysterio is set for later tonight.

- The Major Brothers talked about their match later tonight.

- John Morrison & The Miz defeated The Major Brothers.

- Vince McMahon talks to Finlay backstage. They talk about being Irish and loving to fight. Vince changes the scheduled Mark Henry vs. Hornswoggle match to Mark Henry vs. Hornswoggle & Finlay.

- The Cutting Edge returns tonight with Batista as the guest.

- Batista asked Vicki backstage why she did what she did. She says she did it because she loves Edge.

- Kane defeated Big Daddy V by DQ. Matt Striker ran in at the end of the match with a chair. He didn't strike anyone but Kane grabbed him by the throat and the ref called the DQ.

- Jesse and Festus put over the new John Cena DVD.

- MVP defeated Rey Mysterio via pin. MVP reversed a hurricurana attempt by Mysterio into a powerbomb and then held on to the ropes during the pin for the win.

- Finlay & Hornswoggle defeated Mark Henry. After the match, the Great Khali came out and he and Henry beat down Finlay.

- Jamie Noble defeated Palumbo.

- Torrie Wilson defeated Victoria.

- The Cutting Edge with Batista was the main event. Edge is in the ring with Vicki and says that he has planned this for months. Batista comes out and tells Edge that he doesn't deserve the World Title but does deserve the beating he is going to get next week. He shoves Edge and then leaves. The lights go out and The Undertaker hits the ring. Edge runs off. 'Taker grabs Vicki and tombstones her. 'Taker then stares down Edge to end the show.

- Vicki was taken off on a stretcher afterwards.

Dark Match

- Batista & Rey Mysterio defeated Edge & MVP.

____________________________

I think that now with Finlay's apparent face turn that Rey Mysterio will probably feud with MVP now. It would make sense. Both of these guys are capable of putting on great matches. It would be a good feud to have in between while Matt Hardy is missing

I seen tonights Smackdown and can say that Edge is a complete coward he didnt wanna take a tombstone from Undertaker as pay back for screwing taker out of his 6th title regin and instead sacrificed Vickie to what should have been his fate

Now thats what i call a utter and complete coward if anything i sure hope Batista gives Edge a complete ass whipping and Undertaker should comes in the ring & ends the so called ultimate opportunist's career by tombstoning him on steel steps

^^^^^ I see Vince McMahon and Michael Hayes have done an excellent job as they got someone to believe that all that stuff was real.
